
Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Joekes is a radiologist with deep expertise in global health, diagnostic imaging, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in low-resource settings. She holds an honorary appointment with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and splits her time between NHS clinical work and global radiology initiatives.
A few highlights of her career:
She completed specialty training in diagnostic and interventional radiology in Leiden, The Netherlands.
Early in her career, she served as the Head of Radiology at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (Kumasi, Ghana).
She later assumed an NHS consultant role in Liverpool, where she focuses on radiology for tropical and infectious diseases.
Liz is co-founder and Director of Worldwide Radiology, a UK-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to expand access to diagnostic imaging in underserved regions.
She is involved in several major research and implementation programs, including the African Research Collaboration on Sepsis (ARCS) and the IMPALA (Lung Health & TB) programme.
Her research interests include post-TB lung disease, stroke in HIV, computer-aided X-ray diagnosis, and POCUS in resource-limited settings.
